THE surgery OF RHINOPLASTY
Results of Rhinoplasty
The current trend in rhinoplasty is the use of less traumatic techniques and instruments. As a less traumatic technique, the technique ofdorsal preservation has emerged, which I was one of the first in Greece to apply and when done in the right cases it has impressive results. Piezoelectric tools are now used as less traumatic tools, replacing the traditional hammers, osteotomes and rasps. I now use only these instruments in my rhinoplasties. More details about this new field of rhinoplasty can be found in ultrasound rhinosculpture.
Information about the surgery
No. Rhinoplasty is an operation that is always performed with correction of the septum and the sockets, if necessary. That is, first the functional problem is corrected and then the hump of the nose and other aesthetic problems are corrected.
It is preferable that the correction of the septum and the hump be done in one operation by a surgeon, because almost always pieces of the cartilage of the septum (grafts) are used to improve aesthetic imperfections and support the nose.
Rhinoplasty has no pain at all. The only discomfort is that the person cannot breathe through their nose normally for a week.
A plaster or acrylic splint is placed over the nose for one week. Inking is much less with the use of piezoelectric tools and lasts 5-7 days (when available).
